For your viewing pleasure I present to you not one, but two, recent projects of mine. The first being my Demoreel for this year and the second being an experimental animated music video that I finished late this year.

The demo reel contains 3d purpose built projects and also some flash work that I animated during my time at Liquid Animation last year. The end creidts give specific accounting of rig/asset owneriship (ie; not me) and other appropriate accreditations.

'Requim for the Fallen' is the tittle of the music video, created in flash with some basic affer effects work and composited in premiere. The music belongs to Amebix (Moscow Madness) with permission given for use.

As always, comments are appreciated. Untill next time though, take it easy and enjoy.

2009 End of year presentation. from Zac Seaton on Vimeo.

It's been some time since I last updated this puppy. Many months, in fact. I've been up to alot, including a trip to Thailand, a stint doing interior decoration paintings and one hell of a convention in canberra.

More important than my escapades abroad, the Diploma of Animation course I've been studying is very shortly coming to an end. The Screening Night held on Tuesday the 17th went very well and almost all of the final peices were very good. One or two weren't so crash hot, but you get that.

So now with the future gleaming brightly and mysteriously ahead of me, I go tentatively forward. Each step comes easier they say, but you must take those intial difficult paces before momentum and inertia can drive you forward ever bolder.

This post is just a quick update really, to get me back onto the damned thing and posting again. So take it easy all and enjoy.

So Much To Tell You About Genocide!

Untitled from Zac Seaton on Vimeo.

OK, so here we have an example of me doing this thing called animation. It's weird huh? Me, of all folk, doing some animation!

Jokes and witticisms aside, this is the work in progress of my first show reel piece. It's been uploaded in it's current form due to assessment reasons and anybody who has a problem with that can go die in a fire. Really, do it now, I command you! OBEY THE FIST!!!

So really what this piece is currently demonstrating is the overall timing, posing and break-downs of the movements. This piece is an excerpt from a much more grandiose scene where upon 'A dude' is fighting a 'minion' for possession of a pretty girls handbag. 'A dude' has just scooped him up buy the leg and thought the 'minion' beat, but the little monkey bastard has a lot more fight left in him.

I'm not really sure what else to say about this piece to give anymore insight, or perhaps it's best I don't and it receives the full force of context ignorant criticism. Whatever, enjoy.

P.S. Don't listen to the toaster, it's full of lies. LIES!!!

DEFEND YOUR ORIFICES FROM THE SKY! no really, that shite will find it's way in anywhere, yeah, anywhere.

So, this little nugget is an assessment peice from my tafe 3D class. We were to model, rig then skin a character and finally make the sucker bounce. This I have done, so I bequeath unto you, oh vengefull interwebs!

Instant Infatuation

Hey there, it's me and it's time for a rant.

As an aninmation student at SBIT I check in fairly reguarly with the blog kept by one of my teachers. He posts a few rants, links to animated clips and some helpful sites. Recently though he linked to this clip;

http://www.videology-tv.com/viewclip.php?id=100 (be warned, it may take some time to load)
Tais-Toi Mon Coeur. It is simply beautiful.

I am in awe of this music video, the whole thing makes me feel all warm and tingly inside. To me it's a sure sign that even contemporary 3D productions dont have to be the disney/pixar cartoony style to be incredibly awesome. Ian (the teacher who runs the blog) has often said that 3d doesnt have to have a certain preset 'look' and I agree.

The way that the animators have imitated stop motion for this clip is amazing. Everything that I have ever liked in a film is packed in here; meaningfull camera work, backgrounds aiding in the storytelling, A STORY (that's right, music vids dont have to be bikini girls gyrating to the latest pop hit!) and incredibily effiecint and effective character designs as well as superb acting and use of timing.

The only thing I can fault is the pacing. The clip starts gorgeously, by the first chorus the film is moving quite swiftly. After that though, it does slow down a tad too much. When the chorus rocks around again though, its back to full swing. I think if the director had found a better way to depict the transformation of the male character, ie; faster pacing, less of the 'lingering' shots ( one or two is more than enough and decreasing the amount may even increase the potency of such shots), the peice could have been as close to perfect as I would ever admit.

Overall, I have found an example of 3D animation that is inspiring to me, seeing it makes me want to get up and scream 'HELL YES, 3D KICKS ARSE!'. So now back I go to my major project for this year, a 3d peice that I will strive to make as worthy a rival that of 'Tais-toi mon coeur' (be silent my heart, in english) as I can.

Thank you and good night.

More Fuel for the Fires!

Well, I've been hard at work procrastinating my arse off. That failed horribly. So I actually did some animating and that worked out much better. Now without much more ado, my dialogue piece.

It's a sound clip from Monty Python's 'Holy Grail'. I wanted the character to be contemplative then as he speaks, agree with whatever thought was in his mind.

As always enjoy, and if you have any comments, feel free to post. Adios!

As I look upon damnation

Alright net space, eat animation!

Don't actually, just watch it, cause I like this piece.

Another Tafe exercise, a character looking and reacting. I wanted him to be surprised , then calm down as he looks.

IT HAS BEGUN!

And I said unto the masses; LET THERE BE ANIMATION!

uhh.... yeah, it felt appropriate to shout just now. Something about late nights and the internet.

So, a short premise about this peice. It was an exercise for Tafe and we animated 'Easy Man' (unfortunate name, yes) jumping in the air from the stand still. I wanted to go for some kinda 'ninja-esque' jump and that's why I had the initial one-foot landing. Anyway, if there is any feedback for this, lemme know.

Untill next time kids, adios!
